Counter Table
There are older people in their 50's and up who remember what it was like to eat at the Woolworth's counter with their parents perhaps, or at times with their friends, as it was "the" place to hang out when we were younger. Because of the memories that come flooding back each time I sit at a counter table, I truly relish going to a restaurant that has a counter table.
A counter table is entirely different from let's say a bar table, for instance. Bar tables are made to be ever so slightly higher to be able to see the many sport's screens about, and if you think about it, they are the exact height most people require for hefting a drink, such as a beer stein, easily and without any trouble never having to stop leaning on your elbows. The counter table makes sure that you can reach everything on the counter while staying comfortably seated for instance, as well as being the right height to eat.
The dilemma comes from not everyone agreeing on what a counter table is. Too many, including myself anyway, there is a large difference between a pub table and a counter table, for instance. Often the difference between the two is that a counter table may have somewhere to put your feet other than on the rungs of your chair perhaps. After all, an old Woolworth's counter table always had a place to put your feet! Also a breakfast counter table is different than a counter table, the difference actually being where you put it, and the size of it, and thus most can't tell the difference between one counter or another table since they appear to be the same to the untrained eye.
Thus when a furniture maker wishes to advertise a counter table, I will agree with them directly that a counter table should be advertised as a counter table, and not the many substitute words. When you say, counter table height dining room table, it should certainly be one that is the height of a counter.
There are a tremendous amount of different materials that make a counter table as well. Some, of course, are made of gorgeous wood that has been well matched by hand in order to show off the special graining of the wood, and they are practically a piece of art! Then you may see a counter table that is plain, and also made of wood, but in addition the table and the legs have been covered with Formica.
With Formica, a counter table thus can be any color at all and still not ever require paint at any time. I have also seen some of the most beautiful workings of a counter table that is made of cast iron thus this table was very artistically well made, yet it had all of the elegance that a person could want from a counter table. Another very nice counter table I have seen was made of aluminum and thus featured the nicest counter top of shiny glass for a very special look for a counter table.
